Caitlin Bates
I am a Masters student in the Geological Sciences department at California State University, Fullerton. My primary scientific interest is igneous petrology. My research work seeks to answer questions regarding magma chamber processes in various tectonic settings and at various scales. I am involved in exploring the temporal, spatial, and geochemical character of these magmas, as well as the connection between the volcanic and plutonic products. I am also interested in the geochemical and petrologic character of the mantle at various scales, and the evolution of these properties throughout Earth’s history. To answer these types of questions, I am interested in the application of radioactive and stable isotopes, major and trace element geochemistry, geochronology, and field mapping.
